This piece is built as a quiet forest reliquary, housed within an ornate antique metal frame fitted with its original convex bubble glass. The frame’s age is preserved rather than corrected, allowing its history to remain visible and intact as part of the work.
At its center is a giant Atlas moth, carefully pinned and spread by hand, paired with a single preserved butterfly. The surrounding environment is composed of real preserved mushrooms, botanicals, moss, and a naturally sourced snake skeleton, arranged to suggest a moment of stillness within a woodland cycle—where growth, decay, and transformation exist simultaneously.
During the pinning process, the Atlas moth sustained minor damage. This was intentionally left unaltered. The imperfection does not detract from the piece, but instead reflects the inherent fragility of natural forms and the reality of working with once-living materials. The moth’s condition aligns with the broader narrative of impermanence present throughout the composition.
Both the frame and the glass show authentic signs of age, consistent with antique materials. These markings are cosmetic only and do not affect stability or display, contributing instead to the depth and character of the piece.
Dimensions:
Length- 26 ½ IN.
Width- 17 ½ IN.
