The Night Conservatory

$685.00

The Night Conservatory is a one-of-a-kind natural history assemblage housed within a true antique oval frame, complete with its original convex glass. This piece was composed slowly and intentionally, allowing the materials to guide the final form rather than forcing symmetry or excess.

At the center rests a male Archaeoattacus edwardsii (Atlas Moth)—a species revered for its immense wingspan and serpentine wing tips, often regarded as one of the most impressive moths in the world. Accompanying him are two male Callosamia promethea (Promethea Silk Moths), chosen for their deep, velvety tones and quiet presence.

The moths are arranged among preserved botanicals, moss, mushrooms, and organic textures, creating the feeling of a nocturnal forest floor frozen in time. The palette remains intentionally muted—earthy greens, warm browns, and shadowed golds—allowing the specimens themselves to hold the visual weight.

The antique frame and original convex glass show gentle, age-appropriate signs of wear, consistent with their history. These include minor surface marks and patina that do not detract from the structural integrity or overall presentation of the piece and instead contribute to its authenticity and depth.

All specimens are real and ethically sourced, preserved for display purposes only. This is a singular artwork—no reproductions, no duplicates.

Dimensions:

Length- 22 ¼ IN.

Width- 16 1/8 IN.
